Wine

A place for Mel to post the wines she is currently enjoying, as well as past favorites!

Scott Harvey J & S Reserve Barbera

A really easy-drinking red. First tried this at a tasting at The Wine Cellar in Durham, NC (Danny and Doreen Muran are truly wonderful). One of the most popular grape varietals in Italy, this grape is finding a new home in parts of California. Full-bodied, lots of berries and a nice finish. Goes well with italian pasta and meat dishes (of course).

Inniskillin "Dark Horse Vineyards" Meritage

 THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 2009 AT 10:46PM

A wonderful British Columbian wine, which you won't find in most of the United States (which is a shame). Cabernet blend with Cab Sauvignon, Merlot, Cab Franc, and Petit Verdot. Really good with lots of food- has lots of fruit but a big body as well. If you can find Inniskillin, I highly suggest their wine!

St. Innocent Pinot Blanc (Freedom Hills Vineyard)

One of my favorite single-varietal whites from Oregon. St. Innocent is a small winery and vineyard about 30 minutes from Linfield, and creates some of the best pinot gris and pinot blanc wines I have had from the Northwest. First tried it in Kirkland, WA before a friend's wedding, and have been trying desperately to find it in North Carolina ever since. Easy to drink, lots of fruit, and pairs well with seafood and shellfish.

Sokol Blosser Meditrina

Another favorite blend from the Sokol Blosser winery and vineyard. Red varietals (syrah, zinfindel, and pinot noir) blended to create a table-friendly wine. Good with hearty pastas, or to enjoy after a long day at work!

Sokol Blosser Evolution

One of my original favorites! Sokol Blosser winery and vineyard is located 10 miles north of my alma mater (Linfield College). Evolution is their top-seller, a blend of 9 white varietals that is refreshing, either on its own or with food. Pair with asian cuisine or shellfish!
